Ayele Tulu - Medium Roast Farmer Direct Lot - Sidama Demeka Becha - Natural G1 Ethiopian Specialty Coffee
Allow us to introduce you to Ayele Tulu, a dedicated coffee producer and a devoted father of three hailing from the captivating Sidamo Bona Zuria region. Ayele's journey into coffee cultivation began in the 1980s when he inherited a piece of land from his father, thus kindling a lifelong passion. His farm stands as an exemplary 'model farm,' revered by the Cooperative for its commitment to best practices in coffee cultivation and harvesting techniques.
His processing method
Nestled within the Demeka Becha site, Ayele's farm serves as a central hub, drawing cherries from neighbouring communities including Dilla Suke, Demeka, Gowacho, Becha, and Bashiro Dale. The network encompasses nearly 10,000 producers, a testament to the ripple effect of Ayele's passion. The distinct teal scale at the heart of the operation meticulously records the weight of the cherries as they're tenderly received, a tradition overseen by the astute Cashier and General Manager, Alemu Gobaro. These cherries, buoyant with promise, undergo a delicate floating ritual before being laid out in gentle layers to bask in the nurturing embrace of the sun.
Employing practical techniques, Ayele's farm utilizes African Raised Beds that ensure even drying of the cherries. Regularly turned, these cherries sidestep issues like mold, fermentation, and rotting. After shade-drying for 14 to 21 days on raised beds, the coffee beans are moved to a secure storehouse, awaiting transportation to Addis Ababa for final processing.
